The Paper Mountain: how often is your paper cited?

Read this (and weep): Nature and Thomson Reuters published a list of the 100 most cited papers since 1900. And had a look at citations of science papers overall: So 50 per cent of all papers are never cited at all or at most: only once. And breakthroughs in physics are missing among the Top 100: The discovery of high-temperature superconductors or the first observations that the expansion of the Universe is accelerating — all of these breakthroughs won Nobel prizes and international acclaim. Yet none of the papers that announced them comes anywhere close to ranking among the 100 most highly cited papers of all time. papermountain
