From Solar Cells to Green IT - New Materials for Energy Transition

What if... the power of thermoelectric materials

What is if all the wasted heat blowing out of these Chimneys (our cars, bodies etc.) could be transformed into energy and be used? Well, that is exactly what thermoelectric materials do, using the difference in temperature, here between the out- and inside of the chimney, to produce electricity. If only they where more efficient so they could be used on a large scale. We could use our body heat to power pace makers, the heat of chimneys to run part of the factory and the excess heat from the exhaust to power the light generator of our car. Designing thermoelectric materials that are more efficient, cheaper, based on abundant raw materials and non-toxic is what the research on them is all about.
